SUUNTO Launches Entry-Level Spartan Trainer Wrist HR

Suunto has expanded the Spartan family of sports watches with the new Spartan Trainer Wrist HR. The Spartan Trainer is smaller than its older siblings, yet delivers great, versatile training features, daily activity tracking, as well as wrist heart rate measurement by biometrics supplier Valencell.

Lumos smart-helmet

The Lumos is a cycling helmet that adds lights to increase visibility. It also includes turn indicators and, using an accelerometer, can detect when you hit the brakes, letting motorists know when you’re stopping.

Initially developed as a Kickstarter campaign, the Lumos earned over five times its funding goal of $125,000.

Coros LINK Smart Helmets make your head an audio amplifier

img_0067Coros Wearables has announced that their LINX smart cycling helmet, which was launched as a Kickstarter project, is now available for purchase.

The LINX uses bone conduction technology and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity so riders can answer calls, be navigated and listen to music without taking their eyes off the road. It uses the riders’s cheek bones to bypasses the eardrum and sends audio directly to the inner ear.

Training plans and injuries – insights from a running workshop

running injuryEarlier this week, I attended a running workshop conducted by Leigh Fisher from Fisher Fitness and Rob Osborne from Keiser Australia.

Fisher is a former AFL footballer, current AFL umpire and accredited running coach. Osborne is a physiotherapist with lots of experience in rehab and biomechanics, particularly as they pertain to runners.

They covered many topics but their discussions on training loads and injury piqued my interest.

Suunto announces Spartan Ultra and revamps online service

The next generation of Suunto multisport watches will land in August 2016. The Suunto Spartan Ultra is a multisport GPS watch. Suunto is also updating its online sports service, Suunto Movescount, with a range of new features and improvements.

The Spartan Ultra is Suunto’s follow up on the popular Ambit3.

Strava delivers Real-time stats with Live Segments

Cyclists and runners all over the world love using Strava. Aside from tracking rides and runs, using your smartphone, the app integrates with lots of other services so you can track your performance and compare it with your friends and peers regardless of what gear they use.

One of Strava’s great features is the ability to define a segment – a portion of your route – that might be covered by other athletes. Strava has updated their app so you can get real-time feedback on how you’re tracking on a segment.
